A Meditation for Lent

by the Rev. Roger Bowen

Fast from pessimism; feast on optimism.
Fast from criticism; feast on praise.
Fast from self-pity; feast on joy.
Fast from bitterness; feast on forgiveness.
Fast from idle gossip; feast on purposeful silence.
Fast from jealousy; feast on love.
Fast from discouragement; feast on hope.
Fast from complaining; feast on appreciation.
Fast from selfishness; feast on service.
Fast from Fear; feast on faith.
Fast from anger; feast on patience.
Fast from concern; feast on compassion from others.
Fast from discontent; feast on gratitude

For those of you who haven't considered fasting for lent... try a few of these on for size!
Great Grace.

Thanks for your encouraging words. There is so much to learn from Lent. It NEEDS to be taught! I get annoyed when young people in particular say, 'I don't even know what Lent is' Let's teach the Word in all it's entirity. The good stuff and the stuff that will challenge us and convict us to change our ways. I really enjoyed ur quote or phrase perhaps 'Spread the word....Holiness is BACK' I have absolutely plastered the Aust. Southern Territory Training College with that saying. Hehe - They don't know it was me, and if the find out - Who cares!! God is awesome! Don't just say it, LIVE IT! Under the blood, Stobes!
